Jim Romain, Lead Alto
Dr. James Romain serves as Professor of Saxophone and Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at Drake University. Active internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral saxophonist, recitalist, clinician, and jazz/commercial performer, he embraces diverse genres of music. As an orchestral saxophonist, James Romain performs regularly with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. He is the baritone saxophonist with the Oasis Quartet and New Third Stream Quartet, and is the lead alto saxophonist of the Des Moines Big Band. Dr. Romain has released three recordings: In Friendship (Centaur – 2009), Oasis Quartet (Innova – 2011), and Howl (Innova – 2012). Dr. Romain serves as Membership Director for the North American Saxophone Alliance.
